Smart Grid Home Lab

In the area of smart energy grids, we show how to use ICT for measuring and monitoring the energy consumption as well as take certain control actions. With a combination of real household devices (TV, tumble dryer) and an emulator the energy behavior of a common household is emulated to enable to test energy measurement equipment and control software. Consumption of the devices is measured using smart plugs and a Smart Meter which interacts with a Home Gateway to register the energy consumption and coordinates control actions (like turning appliances on and of, e.g. taking into account dynamic tariffs or based on net conditions). 

We also demonstrate the integration of commercially available devices and sensors (using the interoperability framework DYAMAND). Based on this functionality, we can control a wider range of devices and offer intelligent services for energy management based on e.g. motion and presence detection.
