"Collaboration is a vital part in the open source ecology."
HDYD Session

Variable/Constant is a social test laboratory, an open structure (free collective) with artists interested in digital development.

"Not all open source software is "good" - developed. So Variable brings developers and artists together to make the software better and bring in another perspective. One challenge is to rethink the standard models of development and architecture.

Collaboration is a vital part in the open source ecology. Free software makes digital freedom, within the "Free" culture."

Constant is an interdisciplinary arts-lab based and active in Brussels since 1997. Constant works in-between media and art and is interested in the culture and ethics of the World Wide Web. The artistic practice of Constant is inspired by the way that technological infrastructures, data-exchange and software determine our daily life. Free software, copyright alternatives and (cyber)feminism are important threads running through the activities of Constant.

Constant organizes workshops, print-parties, walks and ‘Verbindingen/Jonctions’-meetings on a regular basis for a public that’s into experiments, discussions and all kinds of exchanges. For the next three years Constant has the key of the receptive house in the rue Gallait straat 80. This modularly conceived workspace and its makers cordially invite you to come and have a look at what they create, using free software only.

Peter Westenberg will be spokesman for Constant and talk about Constant Variable and Active Archives project. Peter Westenberg is visual artist and film- and videomaker.
